Standing Out

An examiner finds herself inundated with (at least) dozens of anonymized exam scripts that need to be marked in a short period of time.

Your goal should be to find a way to make your exam script stand out. Your essay, if possible, shouldn’t simply be solid or even excellent: it should be memorable.

You know you have achieved this goal when the examiner can (in theory) talk to a colleague about the script that creatively linked Dworkin to Dicey, or about the script that perfectly summed up the UK Supreme Court case law using a seemingly unrelated quote by Napoleon.

You get the point. Try to find your unique voice, to develop your unique writing style.

Don’t get me wrong: this is not necessary in order for you to excel. But is certainly helps, and it is a journey that is fulfilling on its own.
