In Conclusion

The ending has to be memorable. Not just solid, not good, not great, but memorable.

This principle applies to movies, books, music score and - yes - law essays. There are
numerous reasons why your essay's conclusion has to be well drafted. Firstly, it is the last
impression the reader receives from your essay, the final taste. Make it a sweet one.

Secondly, frequently the reader, especially if they are marking your essay, might take a
quick look at your conclusion right after they read your introduction. This serves a dual
purpose. One, this way they verify that what you "promised" in the introduction actually
materialised in the conclusion. Two, this way they can be sure that the conclusion is pithy
and on point.

The third reason why it is important for your conclusion to be memorable is that it allows
you to illustrate that you understand the basic rule of conclusions, which is: do not add new
information and make new arguments in the conclusion! The conclusion is only there for
you to laconically summarise the key points of your essay and "close the loop" of your
essay, i.e. make it come full circle. The conclusion is where you demonstrate that you
compellingly argued what you had set out to argue.

 No more, no less.

In conclusion, make your conclusion memorable. Unlike this one!
